Cross Keys at 50

Updated: May 3

As Cross Keys High School approaches its 50th anniversary, we pause to reflect on the leadership that has guided the institution through five decades of growth, challenge, and achievement. We begin with a conversation with Mr. Caleb Walters, the school’s founding principal (1976–1990), whose vision helped establish the culture of discipline, aspiration, and community that defined the early years of Cross Keys.

We also acknowledge the principals who have carried that legacy forward—Mr. Patrick Joseph (1992–2007), Mr. Ralph Nelson (2007–2018), Mrs. Georgia Waugh-Richards (January–December 2019), and Mr. Paul Morgan (2019–present)—each of whom has played an important role in shaping the life of the school and the opportunities it continues to create for its students.

In this conversation, Mr. Walters reflects on the founding years of Cross Keys High School, the vision that shaped its early development, and the lessons that continue to guide its future.
